Exploring the Depths of the Human Soul with Fikos at The Edit Gallery
The Edit Gallery is currently hosting a thought-provoking art exhibition by the acclaimed Greek visual artist Fikos. His second solo exhibition, “Me and My Monkey,” is an exploration of the human condition, juxtaposing modern social norms against our primal instincts. The show, which opened on May 24th, will continue to welcome visitors until June 22nd.
Fikos’s unique style, known as Contemporary Byzantine Painting, is a harmonious blend of traditional Byzantine artistry, street-inspired graffiti, and expressive contemporary techniques. This exhibition draws inspiration from Robbie Williams’ song “Me and My Monkey,” using it as a metaphor for the internal conflict between society’s expectations and our innate desires.
The artworks feature a collection of hybrid creatures, each representing different facets of our primal instincts. These fantastical beings serve as symbols for the various urges that reside within the human soul, creating a zoological tapestry that reflects our evolutionary journey from prehistoric times to the complexities of modern life.
Fikos’s work prompts introspection on how we reconcile our “little monkey,” or the part of us that remains untamed by modernity. The exhibition resonates with Robbie Williams’ lyrics, echoing the ambiguity in distinguishing between our own reflections and our primitive shadows.
About Fikos: Born in 1987 in Athens, Fikos embarked on his artistic journey influenced by both graffiti and Byzantine iconography. Under the mentorship of George Kordis, he mastered his craft, creating murals in Orthodox churches around the world. His work, including the record-breaking “Earth and Sky” mural in Kyiv, showcases a blend of ancient and modern artistic influences.
The exhibition is open to the public at The Edit Gallery in Limassol, Cyprus, with visiting hours from Tuesday to Friday between 15:00 and 19:00, and on Saturday from 10:00 to 13:00. Art lovers are invited to immerse themselves in this captivating showcase that delves deep into the essence of what it means to be human.
