Stifling Weather and Dust to Affect Cyprus
Residents of Cyprus are bracing for a challenging weather pattern as the Department of Meteorology has indicated an incoming mix of dense dust and a significant rise in temperatures. Panayiotis Georgiou, an official from the department, has informed the public through Phileleftheros that the island will experience a dusty haze originating from Africa, which is expected to persist in the atmosphere until the upcoming Monday. During this period, dust concentrations might occasionally hit “orange levels,” signaling a high density of particulates in the air.
The meteorological developments do not stop with the dust influx.
Last week’s dust episode might find its match in the current forecast, which predicts mostly clear skies with sporadic occurrences of high cloud cover over the weekend and into Monday. However, it is the anticipated dust presence that poses a concern, with potential spikes in concentration that could impact air quality and visibility.
As Cyprus prepares for these environmental conditions, residents are advised to stay updated on weather reports and take necessary precautions, especially those with respiratory issues or sensitivities to air quality changes. The combination of dense dust and high temperatures is a reminder of the island’s susceptibility to climatic influences from the African continent and the importance of preparedness in such events.
