Investigation Underway After Paphos Coast Road Incident
In a distressing turn of events, a car accident on the scenic coast road of Geroskipou resulted in injuries to five individuals late Thursday evening. According to Michalis Nikolaou, the chief of operations for Paphos police, chaos ensued when a young driver lost command of his vehicle, leading to a collision that impacted several people.
The 24-year-old driver was reportedly traveling westward before veering off the road. In an attempt to correct his course, he oversteered, which caused him to lose control entirely. His car then struck a stationary vehicle, which was propelled into four teenagers and another parked car nearby. The victims, all 19-year-old males, were congregated on the roadside at the time of the accident.
Subsequent to the crash, authorities discovered that the driver had been under the influence of narcotics. Despite testing positive for drug use, his blood-alcohol content was determined to be under the legal limit. The driver and the injured parties were promptly transported to Paphos general hospital. Fortunately, none suffered serious injuries, but they were retained for observation as a precautionary measure.
The incident has prompted Paphos police to initiate a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. This event serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers posed by impaired driving and the importance of road safety vigilance.
