UNIC Tops Cyprus and Greece in Outlook and Research

UNIC Makes Strides in Young University Rankings

In a remarkable achievement for higher education in the Mediterranean region, the University of Nicosia (UNIC) has been ranked at #115 worldwide in the 2024 Times Higher Education Young University Rankings. This prestigious position is shared with the University of Toulouse in France, placing UNIC among the leading institutions that are 50 years old or younger. With 673 universities included in this year’s ranking, up from 605 in 2023, UNIC’s standing is a testament to its growing influence and excellence.

UNIC excels in the Young University Rankings, particularly in the areas of assessment, where it ranks 1st and 2nd in Cyprus and Greece for International Outlook and Research Quality. These rankings highlight UNIC’s robust research portfolio and its burgeoning international reputation.

Further cementing its status, UNIC has also been ranked among the Top 501-600 universities globally by THE World University Rankings for 2024. It shares the top spot in Cyprus and Greece with esteemed institutions such as the University of Cyprus, the University of Crete, and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Professor Dimitris Drikakis, Vice President of Global Partnerships at UNIC, commented on the university’s ascent in the rankings. “The University has demonstrated a consistent upward trajectory in the face of intense international academic competition. Our current ranking reflects the effectiveness of our efforts in enhancing teaching methodologies, conducting impactful research, fostering knowledge exchange, and promoting international collaboration. We are committed to sustaining academic distinction and tackling global issues through our initiatives,” he stated.

The Rector of UNIC, Professor Philippos Pouyioutas, also shared his thoughts on the institution’s success. “The University of Nicosia has firmly established itself among the top universities globally, offering a diverse range of programmes and providing prospective students from Cyprus, the rest of Europe, and beyond with excellent opportunities to study either on campus or online. I extend my heartfelt thanks to our teaching, research, and administrative staff, as well as our students and alumni, for their collective efforts in reaching such impressive achievements.”
