Exploring the Art of Winemaking at Oenou Yi
Amidst the scenic highlands of Omodhos, the Vassiliades family has been cultivating their passion for winemaking at the Oenou Yi vineyard. The hospitality space at Oenou Yi is a reflection of the traditional Omodhos village, with family vineyards sprawling at altitudes between 800 to 1,060 metres. The vineyards are meticulously arranged in linear patterns, supported by dry stone walls that prevent soil erosion and surrounded by aromatic roses that serve as natural protectants against vine diseases.
Domaine Vassiliades takes full advantage of Omodhos’ unique terroir, cultivating both local and international grape varieties. Indigenous white varieties such as Xynisteri and Morokanella thrive alongside reds like Maratheftiko and Mavro. International varieties including Chardonnay, Merlot, and Grenache also flourish, each expressing their cosmopolitan character in this distinctive setting.
The annual production currently stands at 150,000 bottles, with the potential to reach half a million. The vineyards benefit from the diurnal temperature variation, which is essential for producing prime fruit. The winery also engages in micro-vinifications to further explore the potential of the Omodhos terroir. Hungarian and French oak barrels are a testament to the winery’s dedication to quality as they age gracefully in the cellars.
Visitors to the winery can indulge in an extensive menu of Mediterranean-inspired dishes, made from fresh, seasonal ingredients. While the 20 suites are still under development, guests can look forward to the opening of the Spa.

Highlighting some exceptional wines from Oenou Yi, the 2023 Pente Litharia Xynisteri stands out with its herbaceous and citrus notes, while the Regina Vasilissa captivates with its floral and mineral complexity. The Promara ‘Alba Domina’ offers a refreshing acidity balanced with stone fruit flavors. For those seeking depth, the Yiannoudi Oikade presents dark berries and spice, and the Geroklima Maratheftiko impresses with its velvety tannins and savory palate. Lastly, the Commandaria dessert wine is a luxurious treat with its rich bouquet of dried fruits and sweet spices.
