The Cabinet on Wednesday appointed two executive directors and one non-executive member to the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Cyprus. Chaired by President Nikos Christodoulides, the council of ministers also appointed a member to the Board of the National Betting Authority.
New Appointments to the Central Bank
The positions of executive directors on the Board of Directors of the Central Bank were given to Eugenia Christodoulou and Georgios Karatzias, both chartered accountants with extensive experience in the financial sector. Their appointments are expected to bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the institution, strengthening its governance and operational capabilities.
Former Deputy Senior Manager of the Central Bank of Cyprus, Kyriakos Stavrou, was appointed as a non-executive member of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank. He replaces Angelos Grigoriades, who recently resigned. Stavrou’s extensive background within the bank is anticipated to provide continuity and stability during this transition period.
Changes in the National Betting Authority
In addition to the appointments at the Central Bank, the Cabinet also appointed chartered accountant George Loizou as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Betting Authority. Loizou replaces George Diogenous, who has also resigned. This change is part of a broader effort to ensure that the National Betting Authority continues to operate with high standards of accountability and transparency.
These appointments reflect a strategic move by the government to reinforce key financial institutions with experienced professionals. The new members are expected to contribute significantly to their respective boards, ensuring robust oversight and effective management in their areas of responsibility.
