Clubs, music venues, and cabarets in Cyprus can now operate with extended hours, from 8:00 pm to 4:00 am on Mondays to Thursdays and Sundays, and until 5:00 am on Fridays and Saturdays. The extended hours were approved by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism and will be in effect until September 30. This decision was reported by Phileleftheros on Friday, following letters sent by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism’s General Director, Elikkos Elia, to relevant authorities.
New Operating Hours
Venues will now be allowed to operate from 8:00 pm to 4:00 am from Mondays to Thursdays and Sundays. Fridays and Saturdays will see an extended closing time of 5:00 am. This effectively grants a 1.5-hour extension to previously established operating hours. The extended hours were approved by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism and will be in effect until September 30.
Industry Reactions
The Cyprus Association of Entertainment Venue Owners (PASIKA) has not yet commented on the new regulations, which only apply to specific categories of venues. PASIKA has previously opposed such selective extensions, arguing they violate the spirit of existing legislation. The Association has advocated for a uniform extension applicable to all entertainment establishments.
As the summer season approaches, this move is expected to boost the nightlife economy, providing more opportunities for both locals and tourists to enjoy the vibrant entertainment scene in Cyprus. However, it remains to be seen how this decision will impact the broader industry and whether PASIKA’s concerns will prompt further discussions or modifications to the current regulations.
