The Police arrested a 16-year-old individual yesterday evening, in connection to the ongoing investigation of car thefts in the Famagusta district. This arrest brings the total number of apprehensions in connection with the spate of car thefts to four. The arrest was made to aid in the investigations, which revealed the involvement of several individuals in car theft cases in Ayia Napa between May 25th and May 30th, 2024.
The Police had received information about suspicious activities involving young people in the Ayia Napa area, leading to the arrest of three individuals, aged 25, 18, and 17, on the night of May 30th. Various burglary tools were found in their possession, and subsequent police inquiries revealed their involvement in several car theft cases that occurred between May 25th and May 30th, 2024, in Ayia Napa.
Parallel Investigations in Larnaca
Simultaneously, another similar case is under investigation involving the 16-year-old and the 18-year-old in Larnaca. The latest incident was reported by a resident of Larnaca on the night of May 30th, 2024, stating a theft of €6,400 in cash from his parked car that same afternoon. Following testimonies and evidence collected during investigations by the Larnaca Police Department, arrest warrants were issued against the 18-year-old and the 16-year-old to facilitate further inquiries.
The four suspects appeared before the Famagusta District Court today, which ordered their detention for four days. The investigations by the Ayia Napa Police Station and the Larnaca Police Department are ongoing.
