Police in Paphos are currently on the lookout for a minor involved in a case of quad bike theft and traffic offences. This comes after a 14-year-old was identified and arrested in connection with the same case.
Quad Bike Theft and Traffic Offences
On Tuesday, a tourist reported the theft of a four-wheeled motorcycle he had rented during his stay. Earlier that day, another quad bike had been reported stolen from a local rental agency. The series of quadbike theft incidents has raised concerns among both residents and visitors.
Around 6:30 PM on Tuesday, officers on patrol in the Moutallos area spotted two four-wheelers being driven by minors. When police signalled for the riders to halt, the teens disobeyed, speeding up and driving dangerously in an attempt to escape. This reckless behaviour added traffic offences to their list of wrongdoings.
Despite their efforts to flee, officers managed to identify one of the teens, a 14-year-old who was already known to the force. The second teen, however, abandoned the quad bike at some point and managed to evade arrest. The abandoned motorcycle was later confirmed to be the one reported stolen by the tourist.
An arrest warrant was promptly issued for the 14-year-old, and police successfully apprehended him on Tuesday night, taking him into custody. As of now, the details of the second teen remain unverified, and the search continues.
The incident highlights the growing issue of quadbike theft in the area and raises questions about the involvement of minors in such activities. Authorities are urging parents to be vigilant and aware of their children’s whereabouts to prevent further incidents.
