Frederick University Hosts Youth Tech Fest Cyprus 2024

Frederick University is set to co-organize the second annual Youth Tech Fest Cyprus 2024, an event dedicated to fostering children’s enthusiasm for technology, innovation, and creativity. Scheduled for April 20, 2024, from 9 am to 4:30 pm, the festival will be hosted at the university’s Limassol campus.

The Youth Tech Fest promises a day filled with a variety of engaging activities, including interactive workshops, masterclasses, and shows. These offerings are designed to captivate children and young enthusiasts in fields such as robotics, gaming, woodworking, XR/VR, science shows, cubing competitions, and fun science. Esteemed academics and professionals will lead these activities, providing expert guidance to participants.

A key focus of the festival is to promote digital literacy and prepare young citizens for a technology-driven society. The event aims to provide equal opportunities for all children and young people to engage in ESTEAM (Entrepreneurship, Science, Technology, Art, and Mathematics), regardless of socio-economic status, gender, or background.

One highlight of the festival is the Girls Go Circular workshop, targeting schoolgirls aged 14-19. This educational program, organized by Junior Achievement Cyprus and Frederick University, aims to develop digital skills and introduce participants to the circular economy. It is part of the university’s campaign “To all women and girls: Join the Journey in Technology and Engineering,” addressing the underrepresentation of girls in digital and green sectors.

Additionally, the festival will feature workshops from Frederick University’s Robotics Academy and display a single-seated Formula type racing car developed by the Frederick University Formula Racing Team.

Schools across Cyprus are invited not only to participate in the festival’s activities but also to submit their students’ multi-disciplinary projects related to ESTEAM fields. These projects will be nominated in the Festival’s Open Competition and recognized during the Youth Tech Award Ceremony.

The Youth Tech Summit is another integral part of the event, where leading speakers will share insights into Educational Technology. The summit serves as a platform for educators and policy-makers to network and share best practices.

Natassa Frederickou, President of Frederick University Council, expressed her delight in co-organizing the fest. She emphasized the importance of inclusivity and talent development in driving progress and shaping a sustainable future.

Youth Tech Fest initiative Founder Sean Alimov shared his anticipation for the event, highlighting the significance of ongoing education in ESTEAM for equipping children with skills for careers involving innovation.

The event is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth and offers free admission to all activities. For more information or to register for the Open Competition, schools can visit the official website of Youth Tech Fest Cyprus 2024.
