**CySEC Joins Global Efforts to Enhance Financial Literacy During Global Money Week 2024**

The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) has declared its commitment to fostering financial literacy by taking part in the annual Global Money Week (GMW2024), an initiative spearheaded by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). This year’s campaign, themed “Protect your money, secure your future,” will run from March 18 to 24, 2024.

Over 176 countries are rallying together for the 12th edition of GMW2024, aiming to improve financial literacy, particularly among the youth. The Cyprus delegation, comprising various organizations and bodies, is actively involved in a series of events and initiatives tailored to this educational pursuit.

CySEC is marking its third consecutive participation in Global Money Week, leading efforts to raise awareness about the importance of basic financial education. These initiatives are considered vital in empowering individuals to safeguard against potential risks associated with financial investments and services.

In preparation for GMW2024, CySEC Chairman Dr. George Theocharides delivered a lecture at the European University of Cyprus, emphasizing the value of financial education in enabling young people to make informed financial decisions.

Additionally, CySEC is reaching out to schools with informational presentations, ensuring that the promotion of financial literacy aligns with the educational community’s needs. Collaborating with the Central Bank of Cyprus and the Ministries of Education and Finance, CySEC has prepared educational materials for distribution in primary and secondary schools during the campaign week.

As part of GMW2024 activities, CySEC will publish a new Investor’s Guide focused on online investment trends and launch an online campaign to spread key investor protection messages via social media.

Dr. Theocharides highlighted the importance of financial education in combating financial illiteracy, stating that nurturing financial literacy from early childhood is paramount. He also stressed the significance of this initiative in today’s digital financial landscape, where understanding financial risks is crucial for overall well-being.
