Cypriot Wineries Shine at PROWEIN 2024
In a significant push to promote their viniculture, Cypriot wineries, with the support of the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, and Industry and the Cyprus Trade Centre in Berlin, showcased their products at the prestigious International Wine and Spirits Exhibition PROWEIN 2024. The event, held in Düsseldorf, Germany from March 10 to 12, marked the third consecutive participation for Cyprus at this global platform.
The exhibition, which celebrated its 30th anniversary this year, is considered a cornerstone event in the wine and spirits industry. With its inception in 1994, PROWEIN has consistently provided a comprehensive stage for industry players to converge, network, and exhibit their finest offerings. This year’s gathering was no exception, drawing an impressive crowd of approximately 47,000 visitors from 135 countries and featuring 5,400 exhibitors from 65 nations.
Amidst this international backdrop, 14 Cypriot wineries took the opportunity to present their distinctive wines made from native grape varieties. Special attention was given to traditional Cypriot wines such as commandaria and zivania, which are deeply rooted in the island’s winemaking heritage. The event served not only as a platform for product promotion but also as a fertile ground for establishing and nurturing business relationships. Cypriot wineries engaged with both existing and potential partners, expanding their network within the industry.
The Ministry of Energy, Commerce, and Industry reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the export capabilities of Cypriot businesses. By participating in major international exhibitions like PROWEIN, the ministry aims to facilitate the entry of Cypriot wines into new markets, thereby elevating the country’s profile in the global wine and spirits sector. This aligns with the broader strategy to celebrate and promote Cyprus’ rich viniculture and winemaking traditions across the world.
