Resolution in Sight for CyBC Employees’ Salary Delays
In a recent turn of events, there appears to be a concerted effort by the Cypriot Ministries of Labour, Finance, and Interior to ensure that the employees of the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC) receive their March salaries by the upcoming Friday. This development comes after the delay in the submission of CyBC’s budget to the House of Representatives for approval, which caused uncertainty among the workforce.
Union representatives have voiced cautious optimism following a meeting with Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, Yiannis Panayiotou. Although the meeting was initially set to discuss other matters, it paved the way for a dialogue on the salary issue. Andreas Ilias, General Secretary of OHO-SEK, expressed confidence in the government’s commitment, stating, “There is a clear intention from everyone that salaries and the safeguarding of rational salary distribution should be done both timely and in the appropriate manner.” He emphasized the importance of awaiting final results before drawing any conclusions.
The sentiment was echoed by Nikos Gregoriou, General Secretary of SEK-PEO, who highlighted the unions’ proactive stance in ensuring that employees are paid on time and in full, in accordance with labour legislation and proper regulation of labour relations. Gregoriou reassured that all parties involved seem intent on resolving the issue and that unions are vigilantly monitoring the situation to achieve the desired outcome.
