Resolution in Sight for CyBC Employees’ Salary Delays
In a recent development that has brought a collective sigh of relief to the employees of the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC), it appears that their wait for March salaries may soon be over. Union representatives have conveyed a strong sense of willingness from the Ministries of Labour, Finance, and Interior to expedite the payment process, with aims to have the salaries disbursed by the coming Friday.
This positive turn of events follows a period of uncertainty caused by a delay in the submission of CyBC’s budget to the House of Representatives for approval. The issue was brought to light during a meeting between union officials and Yiannis Panayiotou, the Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Insurance. Although the meeting was initially called to discuss other matters, the topic of salary delays took center stage.
Andreas Ilias, General Secretary of OHO-SEK, emphasized the collective commitment to resolving the issue, stating, “There is a clear intention from everyone that salaries and the safeguarding of rational salary distribution should be done both timely and in the appropriate manner.” He cautiously added, “We want to clarify that we will await the final results.”
The sentiment was echoed by Nikos Gregoriou, General Secretary of SEK-PEO, who highlighted the unions’ proactive efforts. “Since yesterday we have initiated an effort as unions to make the obvious happen, namely to pay the salaries on time and in full, as stipulated by labour legislation and as demanded by the proper regulation of labour relations,” Gregoriou said.
Both union leaders have expressed optimism that the Ministries are moving forward with the necessary processes to ensure timely payment. As they closely monitor the situation, their primary goal is to achieve the desired outcome without causing any further inconvenience to the workers. The unions stand in solidarity with the employees, fighting to ensure that this salary issue is resolved promptly.
The collective efforts of all parties involved signal a hopeful resolution for the staff at Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation, with expectations firmly set on receiving their dues by the week’s end.
