The government is set to unveil a plan aimed at drawing more visitors to the museums scattered across the Akamas villages, according to President Nikos Christodoulides. The initiative, set to be prepared in the coming months, will provide incentives to boost visitor numbers at centres such as the Akamas Regional Museum of Rural Life. The government intends to link various community projects, promoting their connectivity to make them more appealing to tourists. Ahead of the summer season, a concrete strategy is expected to roll out to encourage more people to explore the region’s museums.
Key projects funded by EU’s Recovery and Resilience Mechanism – NextGenerationEU and implemented under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan are already operational. One such is the Aphrodite Thematic Route Project in Inia. Other initiatives, financed through local funds, include the Inia-Lara Turtle Exhibition and Education Centre and the development of the square.
For the 2024-2028 period, a provision has been included to cover operational expenses of community infrastructures across all Akamas communities. These include museums showcasing local art and culture, exhibition and educational centres, and environmental and regional information centres. The government also has multiple initiatives aimed at boosting Akamas’ economy for the same period.
