The latest Henley Passport Index has revealed the most powerful travel documents for 2024, with a significant shift in global trends. Topping the list are France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Spain, whose citizens can enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 194 destinations worldwide. This marks the highest recorded figure since the index began its monitoring of global travel freedoms 19 years ago.
Trailing closely at second place are Finland, Sweden, and South Korea, with access to 193 destinations. The UAE remains the standout performer, with the passport θέσεις in 11th place – the highest climb in the index over the past decade, adding 106 visa-free destinations since 2014.
However, the Henley δείκτης indicates a widening global mobility gap between countries at the top and bottom of the table. “While the general trend over the past two decades has been toward greater travel liberalization, the global mobility gap is today larger than ever,” notes Christian H. Kaelin, Chairman of Henley & Partners.
A separate index by Arton Capital, which monitors 193 United Nations member countries and six territories, places the UAE in first place for 2024, with ease of travel to 180 countries. Meanwhile, Greece holds its rank in 5th place in both indexes, emphasizing the strength of its ταξιδιωτικά έγγραφα.
