In an effort to upgrade and develop higher education in Cyprus, the Ministry of Education is set to propose significant changes. Following an extensive meeting at the Presidential Palace, Education Minister Athina Michailidou announced that an official proposal is in the works. Once presented, the proposal will lay the groundwork for amending current legislation and other key activities, striving for αναβάθμιση (upgrade), ανάπτυξη (development), and ανώτερη εκπαίδευση (higher education).
The Minister is also pushing for three extensive surveys through the Recovery and Resilience Fund. The surveys will focus on discerning the needs of the labor market, creating a link with higher education. Besides, there was a dialogue and consultation between the Ministries, focusing on improving the quality and image of higher education, legislative amendments, and establishing connections with the labor market.
Notably, Cyprus’s higher education plan will include measures to ensure that graduates have viable employment opportunities. These measures establish a direct link between higher education and labor market needs. Additionally, initiatives will be implemented to attract foreign students, enhancing the country’s educational profile on the global stage.
