Following two years of deploying camera technology across the country, significant strides have been made towards reducing road deaths. The photo-identification system aimed to decrease traffic violations, and latest figures indicate this objective is being largely realized.
Between 1/1/2022 and present, the system recorded 357,870 violations, resulting in 279,751 out-of-court fines. 233,572 of these have been paid to date, leaving 42,179 yet to be addressed. Unpaid fines will advance to court.
Despite some protests from drivers, the figures reflect the importance of the initiative in managing traffic violations, which has led to encouraging results in reducing road deaths. However, a significant number of incidents caught by the cameras are still in a pending state. These include cases where the vehicle owner is to be identified, cases involving corporate vehicles where the driver is yet to be determined, system-error-related incidents, or those involving emergency situations. Nonetheless, the results underline the efficacy of the system against camera violations.
