In a bid to continuously enhance the healthcare services for its citizens and improve their quality of life, the government of Cyprus, directed by Health Minister Michalis Damianos, has launched a collaborative initiative with Greece focused specifically on cardiac care.
Speaking at the inaugural Scientific Conference of the Cardiology Societies of Cyprus and Greece, Damianos emphasized that this initiative reinforces the long-standing ties between the two nations. He added that such collaborations could kindle advancements in treatment methodologies for various diseases, especially valvular diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and cardiac surgeries.
Valvular diseases, along with other heart-related ailments, constitute an integral part of Medical Science that is continually evolving. It thus requires timely attention from an experienced group of medical professionals to prevent further irreversible damage to patients’ hearts.
Considering that cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death both in Cyprus and in the European region, the Health Ministry has established a Specialist Committee. The main objective of this group is to verify and address any incidents not treated within the National Health Service (NHS) and, if need be, refer to medical centers abroad.
Importantly, Damianos highlighted the introduction of the NHS in June 2019 has opened new possibilities in offering quality medical services to the citizens. While acknowledging room for further enhancements, he extended his congratulations to the event organizers and expressed his gratitude for their efforts in improving the lives of Cypriot patients.
