Cyprus Employees See a Rise in Average Gross Monthly Earnings
The Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat) has provided a glimpse into the economic progression within the island nation, highlighting a positive trend in employee earnings. Recent data reveals that the average gross monthly earnings of employees have seen an appreciable increase in the fourth quarter of 2023 compared to the previous year.
Employees in Cyprus are now earning an average of €2,693 per month, which is a significant rise from the €2,535 reported in the last quarter of 2022. This 6.2 per cent increase underscores a robust growth in wages, showcasing a strengthening economy and potentially increased spending power among Cypriots.
When taking into account seasonal variations, the figures remain optimistic. The seasonally adjusted average gross monthly earnings for the fourth quarter stood at €2,402, marking a 1.6 per cent increase from the third quarter of 2023. This sequential growth suggests a sustained positive momentum in the labor market.
An analysis by gender presents an interesting dimension to the wage increase narrative. Men experienced a slightly higher surge in their average gross monthly earnings, which are estimated at €2,884 for the fourth quarter of 2023. This represents a 6.7 per cent jump from the same period in the previous year. Women also saw their earnings rise to €2,452, up by 5.5 per cent compared to the fourth quarter of 2022.
The report from Cystat not only paints a picture of economic resilience but also hints at potential shifts in the labor market dynamics of Cyprus. As businesses and policymakers digest this information, the focus may shift towards understanding the drivers behind these increases and ensuring that the growth is sustainable and inclusive for all segments of the workforce.
