Investigation Requests: Russia Seeks Western Cooperation
In a recent development, the Ministry of Justice in Cyprus has clarified its stance in response to reports from the Russian state news agency TASS. According to TASS, A Procuradoria-Geral da Rússia enviou pedidos oficiais aos países ocidentais, including Cyprus, the United States, Germany, and France, seeking assistance in probing the Nord Stream pipeline explosions and other alleged terrorist activities on Russian territory.
However, the Cypriot authorities have stated that
The requests from Russia cite international anti-terrorism conventions and emphasize the importance of cooperation among nations to identify and hold the perpetrators accountable. This comes on the heels of calls from Russian political figures, such as Andrei Krasov and Aleksandr Dugin, for a thorough investigation into the possible foreign financing and organization of terrorist acts. The latter has a personal stake in the matter, as his daughter Darya was killed in a bombing incident.
Amidst the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, both sides, along with their respective Western allies, have exchanged accusations regarding the Nord Stream pipeline blasts. Despite the mutual blame game, neither side has accepted responsibility, and no group has claimed the attacks.
The Kremlin has expressed frustration over the investigative process, labeling it “close to absurd.” The situation remains tense as international relations are strained by these allegations and the broader geopolitical conflict.
